Lenka Holubec, Flight of Spirit from cycle Connecting
with Stone
Chromira print, 22 x 24 inches
The existence of all living and "non-living" things,
rocks including, is fragile. To be aware of this existence more
clearly, we have to learn to appreciate its fragility.
Selected limited edition prints from Lenka Holubec's photography-based
work titled Fragility of Life are presently
shown as a part of the Circle Arts gallery's May 21
- Oct 10, 2011 exhibits.
This latest segment is a continuation of her ongoing work Connecting
with Stone that has been attempting to communicate
the experience inspired by intricate patterns found on the ancient
rock forms. Through the rudimentary shapes, lines, and textures
of the rocks constituting the backbone of Lakes Huron and Superior, she
is trying to capture the essence and authentic meaning of
these magnificent artifacts.
The recurring theme of this work evolves around exploration of
the rocks that have been created millions, and in some cases billions,
of years ago. When closely observed, they may take us on a path
reaching beyond our daily reality, while connecting us through
nature to a universal existence of which we are all a part.
When focusing on a particular rock pattern and a landscape
surrounding it we may become aware of the imprints of life and
energy in the rock similar to those carried in our mind, body
and soul.
