BRAMPTON PREPS FOR THE ARRIVAL OF
TEAM CZECH REPUBLIC
BRAMPTON, ON: The City of Brampton and Powerade Centre are getting
ready to host Team Czech Republic for a Pre-Competition Camp as
part of the 2009 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships. The camp
runs from December 16 23, ending with an exhibition game
between Team Czech Republic and Team Sweden on Tuesday, December
23, 2008 at 7 pm.
In advance of the camp, representatives from the Team Czech Republic
toured the Powerade Centre and viewed other locations in the City
last week before starting a weeklong Canadian scouting trip. Members
of the local host committee also took the opportunity to meet
with the group that included the team's General Manager Petr Misek
and Head Coach Marek Sykora (on the picture).
Both Misek and Sykora were very positive about the host facilities.
Misek, who had been to the Powerade Centre once before
when Rostislav Klesla played for the Brampton Battalion, was impressed
with the amenities available to the team during their training
camp. "This arena is great," he remarked. "Everything
works perfectly for what we need."
"It was important for us to make a good first impression
with Team Czech Republic," said Brian Stittle of the City
of Brampton's Economic Development Office. "We needed to
show them they would be comfortable during their pre-competition
camp, and we accomplished that today. Not every host community
will have the opportunity to meet with their assigned team prior
to the start of the camps, so we were happy to take advantage
of this."
According to Misek, Team Czech Republic will arrive in Brampton
with as many as 28 players, including three goaltenders. They
will use the camp and exhibition game to evaluate the team before
selecting a roster that will open the 2009 IIHF World Junior Hockey
Championships against Team Canada on Boxing Day in Ottawa.
Tickets for the game between Team Czech Republic and Team Sweden
on Tuesday, December 23 at 7 pm are still available from the Powerade
Centre or by calling 905-459- 9340x101. Tickets, which cost $15
each, are also available through www.ticketmaster.ca. (Ticketmaster
Service Charges will apply when purchasing on-line.)
